The Church Content Calendar: How to Plan 30 Days of Posts in 2 Hours

The most common reason churches go quiet on social media isn't lack of ideas. It's the daily burden of figuring out what to post today. The solution isn't more inspiration. It's a system.

Here's the exact content calendar process I use with every church I work with.

Step 1: Choose Your Weekly Rhythm (20 minutes)

Decide how often you'll post and on what platforms. Start with 3 posts per week — enough to stay visible without burning out your team.

Pick your three days. For most churches, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday work well:

  • Monday: Recap or takeaway from Sunday's message
  • Wednesday: Mid-week encouragement or community highlight
  • Friday: Weekend preview or invitation

Consistency matters more than timing. An account that posts three times a week reliably beats one that posts daily for a week and then disappears.

Step 2: Define Your Content Categories (15 minutes)

Think of your content in four buckets:

  • Invite — Posts that invite people to attend, watch online, or take a next step.
  • Inspire — Quotes, Scripture, or stories that encourage faith.
  • Inform — Announcements, events, ministry updates.
  • Involve — Behind the scenes, team spotlights, community moments, questions.

A healthy feed mixes all four. Aim for roughly one Invite, one Inspire, and one Inform or Involve post each week.

Step 3: Build 30 Days of Content in One Session (45 minutes)

Set aside one afternoon per month. Open a spreadsheet and fill in:

  • Date
  • Platform
  • Category (Invite / Inspire / Inform / Involve)
  • Content idea or draft caption
  • Visual needed?

Start with your fixed content: sermon series graphics, event promos, holidays. Then fill the gaps with Inspire and Involve content.

One tip: pull quotes from upcoming sermon notes in advance. One sermon = 4–6 quote graphics. That alone covers half your monthly calendar.

Step 4: Batch Your Graphics (30 minutes)

With your calendar done, create all your graphics at once. Use Canva with your church's brand kit. Templated designs mean you're not starting from scratch every time — you're just swapping text and photos.

Once you have 4–5 templates, a month of graphics takes less than an hour.

Step 5: Schedule and Walk Away

Use a scheduling tool — Buffer, Later, or Facebook Creator Studio — to queue everything at once. Then check engagement daily, respond to comments, and spend the rest of your week on ministry, not content creation.

The Result

With this system, you're not deciding what to post every day. You're executing a plan. Your feed stays consistent. Your team knows what's coming. You spend 2–3 hours a month on social media instead of 2–3 hours a week. If you'd rather hand your content strategy and execution to a partner, our team builds a complete monthly calendar for your church.
