I didn't come to this from a boardroom — I came from behind a pulpit. For over sixteen years I've been in pastoral ministry, serving on staff at some of the largest churches in the world, including the fastest-growing church in America. I've led in mega-churches and church plants alike — and I'm still actively serving as Lead Pastor of Love Church San Diego today.
Along the way I built a second education. I hold a bachelor's and master's in theology, and spent time embedded in a San Diego startup marketing company working with local businesses to grow revenue. I studied under skilled marketing directors and applied those frameworks to a world no agency was built to serve: the local church.
When we planted Love Church, we had no team, no building, and no congregation. We used social media to build a launch team from scratch — and it worked. Most of the people in our services today found us through social media. But the goal was never attendance. The goal was always discipleship. We didn't want a system that got people to church.
